As a nation that has endured one of the most horrific genocides in recent history, Cambodia is a land rich with hope & promise. Climbing out of despair brought by the Khmer Rouge in the mid 1970's, this resilient nation is energetically pressing forward to a brighter tomorrow.
A greater problem than war in this region is the lack of safe drinking water. Unsafe water & sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Children are especially vulnerable, as their bodies aren't strong enough to fight diarrhea, dysentery and other illnesses.
A unique blend of European, Islamic and Mediterranean cultures, the recently formed nation of Kosovo has rich natural and human resources. Sadly, most of the 2 million people still do not have access to safe water, waste water treatment or refuse removal.
The focus of our work in Rwanda centers on helping provide sustainable water solutions for schools and health clinics. More than 80% of Rwandans live rurally with the majority of schools and health clinics operating without access to adequate water, sanitation, or hygiene.
Together with local residents, Water for Life staff built a total of nine rain harvesting systems to serve health clinics and primary schools. We ran a rain harvesting workshop and trained 18 people to provide their communities with ongoing access to safe drinking water.
One of our approaches to helping communities in need of safe drinking water is to provide them with the information and training that will help them to help themselves.
