Water for Life

One of our approaches to helping communities in need of safe drinking water is to provide them with the information and training that will help them to help themselves. This is especially true in places like Brazil, where there is a desperate need for drinking water, and a strong desire for these communities to preserve their culture from unnecessary outside influences.

In 2007 we held our first training workshop in the Amazon tributary town of Porto Vehlo. As part of the training, we built a rain catchment system that now supplies safe drinking water to the local community. The system collects and stores water for the dry season when many of the local wells go dry. We also built a special sand filter that could be used to purify the rain water if desired. Many of those trained will now take these technologies to the outlying communities and train local villagers to meet their own water needs.
